Our Lady of the Angels Province
embarks on an inaugural journey,
Monday, May 5, 2014,
with the first Provincial Chapter.
The territory of this new province includes the East Coast of the United States, Ontario Canada and Costa Rical, as well as friars living and serving in several other countries.
This union of friars, from the former Immaculate Conception and the former St. Anthony of Padua Provinces, look at this new beginning as an opportunity to reenergize their Franciscan spirit and more effectively serve parishes and other ministries across this vast region.
The Conventual Franciscans have served in the United States since the 1850's, when Friar Leopold Moczygemba arrived in Texas to care for the Polish immigrant community.
Friars also began serving communities in the Northern United States, establishing a motherhouse for their mission at Assumption Parish in Syracuse, New York, in 1859, evolving into the Immaculate Conception Province, in 1872.
St. Anthony of Padua Province was established in 1906, providing care to the large Polish immigrant population, in the United States.
The friars of Our Lady of the Angels Province will now care for people from a variety of backgrounds, through parish work, nursing, teaching, and many other ministries.
Please keep the friars in your continued prayers.
